Potty Training

Today we started the 3 day potty training method with Quinton.  Basically we stay by his side all day long for 3 days and constantly say "Let mommy or daddy know if you need to go to the potty."  If he starts to have an accident, we rush him to the potty saying "yucky, you're wet."  We have had about 4 accidents today so far.  He has yet to actually go in the potty, but he regularly asks to go and will sit for quite a while before saying he is finished.  He gets the idea, but hasn't put the urge to go with actually going yet.  I have been told by others using this method that it usually takes until the end of day 2 for them to "get it".  Hopefully we will have a better day tomorrow.  He is down for a nap as I type this and I am praying that he wakes up dry!!  Hopefully my patience will outlast the frustration and Quinton will be successful!

Q is 2!!

Quinton turned 2 on July 2 and is still constantly amazing us!  When we took him in for his 2 year checkup he weighed 27 lbs which put him in the 25-50 percentile for the first time since he was about 6 months old!!  He was 34 1/2" tall well in the average range.  The only thing not so average is his speech.  The doctor said he is actually talking like a 3 year old, a full year ahead of his age!!  We were concerned he might have some speech problems due to the tongue-tie he has had since birth.  Apparently we had no reason for concern!!  For his actual birthday we went and ate Italian food for dinner and then took ! to Chick-fil-a for an ice cream cone and play time on the playground.  On Saturday, we met family at Mercado Juarez in Arlington to celebrate Quinton and Gabe's birthdays together.  Next Saturday (7-10) is Q's birthday party with his friends/cousins.  It is supposed to be a swim party at Gabe's grandmother's house, but if it keeps raining, I don't know what we're going to do!!!  We are trying to decide if it is time to start potty training or hold off a little longer.  Time will tell.  This summer is flying by and I can't believe school starts again in about 6 short weeks!

Guess Family Illness

It seems as if the stomach bug has hit the Guess Family.  On Monday Q man got hit hard with this "stomach" bug.  Michelle went in on Monday morning and found that he had well threw up all over his bed, floor, and every where else it would go.  So on Tuesday it seemed that all was good.  Then came Wednesday, well lets go back to Tuesday Michelle started felling bad and hasn't felt good since.  Back to Wednesday I woke up not feeling well and went to work and felt bad all morning.  Picked up Q and then at 1pm I was in deep conversation with John.  All the while Michelle not feeling well the whole time.  Today I woke up and am feeling 100% better.  Michelle I think is also felling better.  I pray that the "stomach" bug is gone.

I Can't Believe It's Been This Long!

I can't believe it has been over 3 months since I updated this thing! Quinton is now 19 months old and a handful! He is really starting to test his boundaries to see what he can get away with. This includes, but is not limited to, hitting, biting, pinching, etc! He is learning new words and signs everyday and constantly amazes us with the new wods he says. Just today he told my mom, "Go George Bush" when she was asking me whether she should take I75 or the George Bush Tollway. The words came out very clearly!
Thursday we received a record breaking 12.5 inches of snow in DFW. We took Quinton out to play thinking he would love the stuff. Boy were we wrong! HE HATES THE SNOW! Any time Gabe or I would put him down to stand in it, he would scream and cry until we picked him up. We tried to get him to throw snowballs, but he wanted nothing to do with that either. I brought some snow into the house from off my car in a bowl thinking that maybe he was just overwhelmed by the amount of snow outside. Wrong again! He backed away from the bowl shaking his head and saying, "NO, NO, NO, NO!" I shouldn't be surprised. This is the same child who, when he plays outside, tries his hardest not to end up on the ground. If he does fall, he will sit there, holding his hands up, looking around trying to figure out how to get up without actually touching the grass.
Quinton loves to read and is always bringing books to Gabe or I and crawling in our laps for us to read to him. As an English teacher and avid reader myself, I am thrilled by this!! He loves to do "big boy" things and thinks he is much bigger/older than he really is.

Back to the Doctor

Quinton went back to the doctor today thanks to running a fever last night and coughing/being stuffy all weekend. I gave him Benadryl last night and that seemed to help clear him up some so I gave him another dose this morning. The doctor's office said because of his age and the fact that he had flu 2 weeks ago they needed to see him. Thankfully his lungs were clear, his ears were clear, and they figure it is just allergies. Just to be safe they sent us to get an x-ray of his lungs. They wanted to be sure that there wasn't any pneumonia hiding out in his lungs. Quinton got to have his first x-ray and did excellently!! The x-ray technicians said he was the best 1 year old they had ever seen!! The doctor's office called us back at about 5 to give us the results of the x-ray: No pneumonia!! He gets to take Benadryl for another couple of days and then we can give him Zyrtec if we need to.
